Más Canarias has now been officially registered as a party. As of this week, the formation linked to Más País is registered for all purposes in the Register of Political Parties of the Ministry of the Interior.
"After an intense democratic process that began more than a year ago, we can celebrate continuing to take steps," says the president, Javier Navarro. The party, which elected a Management Board in November, held its Constituent Assembly at the end of February, where they unanimously approved its statutes.
Now, the formation announces that it is working on organizing its first Congress in the Canary Islands within a maximum period of 3 months. "We are going to respond to the lack of enthusiasm and ambition that exists in the progressive space," says the treasurer, Florisela Rodríguez. Más Canarias explains that at the party's Congress, the teams that will be in charge of the main bodies of the party for the next 2 years must be configured, both its Executive Board and the Guarantees and Care Committee.
In addition to electing teams, Más Canarias states that they are working on "the creation of a progressive, environmental and feminist program for the islands that is capable of awakening the enthusiasm of the citizens." "The level of abstention in the Canary Islands should concern us all, we hope to be a revulsive against electoral apathy," says the vice president of Más Canarias, Marta Hernández. For the next Congress, the regional party hopes to have the presence of Íñigo Errejón.
"National parties often forget about the Canary Islands until the election campaign, we have to start changing that," says the party secretary, Mateo Ojeda. For his part, Navarro Lasso, president of the formation, concludes that "we would love to have the desire and hope of the Canarian people, as well as those who have accompanied us on this political journey that is just beginning."
