The socialist councilor in the Cabildo, Isabel Martín, has shown "her astonishment at the lack of scruples and little respect for the truth of Oswaldo Betancort, who, after changing a few pieces of furniture and giving it a new name, boasts before the citizens of inaugurating a new day center for the elderly in La Graciosa when these facilities were put into operation last April."
As the councilor explained, the center, with the name of Centro de Ocio La Graciosa, "was remodeled over several months, with an approximate investment of one hundred thousand euros, finishing the works in March of this year."
Martín explains that "these works consisted of the provision of bathrooms for people with reduced mobility, the adaptation of the kitchen and the doctor's office; the redistribution and expansion of some of the rooms; chipping and sanitation works; the replacement of the current carpentry and flooring; the insulation and waterproofing of ceilings; the renovation of electrical installations, plumbing and sanitation; and the improvement of energy efficiency, among others, having been planned and carried out during the previous term."
According to Isabel Martín, these facilities were intended not only to serve the elderly of La Graciosa, but also to provide an adapted environment that would allow the temporary relocation of elderly people cared for by the Cabildo in other centers, located in Lanzarote.
For Isabel Martín this behavior is not new: "Those of us who have had Oswaldo Betancort as mayor know perfectly well his capacity to disguise the truth and even to lie blatantly."
The socialist councilor has lamented that Coalición Canaria "continues to be determined to use the elderly in their populist strategies, when they have demonstrated over the years an unacceptable neglect in the management of the facilities ceded to third parties."
"We have spent four years regularizing situations without any type of legal coverage and, what is worse, without control mechanisms to guarantee that the care for our elders was provided correctly," concluded Martín, who has sent to the media the images that demonstrate that the facilities are the same.
