The socialist senator for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Manuel Fajardo, received this Wednesday the 1st year high school students from I.E.S Villa de Firgas, on the occasion of the awards ceremony of the contest "We celebrate 40 years of Autonomy".
The Contest is convened in order to "promote the active, creative and responsible participation of students in the knowledge of the process of transition to democracy and the achievement of the Autonomy of the Canary Islands", reports the PSOE.
The call has the objectives of "publicizing the main historical milestones linked to the development and evolution of the Canary Islands as an Autonomous Community; recognize the institutions, entities and personalities that, from different fields, have contributed in a special way to the construction of the current Canary Islands; promote knowledge about our recent past and especially about the process of transition to democracy and value the Canarian cultural heritage", the party makes clear.
The award ceremony was attended by the Government Delegate in Madrid, Dolores Padrón, and the general director of Planning, Innovation and Quality of the Canary Islands, Gregorio José Cabrera.
The screening of the winning video was introduced by the musical piece "Sombra del Nublo" by Néstor Álamo, and the recital of part of the poem "Canarias" by Nicolás Estévenez, by the students of IES Villa de Firgas.
After the screening of the winning video, the senator chatted with the invited students about the functioning of the Senate and the General Commission of Autonomous Communities. At the end of the talk, they enjoyed a guided tour of the Upper House.
The award ceremony concluded with a lunch of Senator Fajardo with the winners of the contest.
