Machín remains silent after the serious accusations from AC and PIL, and PP also doesn't see his "radical" change of position as "coincidental"

The Cabildo councilor Sergio Machín has preferred to remain silent in the face of the serious accusations from Alternativa Ciudadana, who stated this Tuesday that his change of attitude in the last plenary session, supporting the government group with his vote on a proposal to tax the sale of fuel, could be motivated by "the sudden obtaining of a job at Canal Gestión by a close relative", specifically his son.

La Voz has contacted and maintained a conversation with Sergio Machín, but the councilor did not want any type of statements on this matter to be published. Thus, he continues to not give explanations as to why he decided to break party discipline at the time, and why he has now voted with the government group again. And even more so, on a topic that he did not support a few weeks ago, when Pedro San Ginés decided to withdraw that point from the agenda to avoid being in the minority.

Those who have valued AC's accusations are the other two opposition parties, PP and PIL. Both consider that Machín's "radical" change of position "is not accidental". "In politics, coincidences do not occur and everything has a justification, but it would be regrettable if, in exchange for a vote, Sergio Machín has managed to place a son", stated the PIL councilor, Ramón Bermúdez.

For his part, Ángel Vázquez, councilor of the PP, believes that if AC has made these accusations it is "because it will have indications" and believes that the attitude adopted by Machín in Friday's plenary session "was not accidental, so it generates some distrust".

"CC's deals with the connivance of the PSOE"

The PIL councilor has stated that "at the time" Inalsa had a job bank of "people, councilors, who had gone through a selective process" but "it has not been taken into account" for these latest hires. "Regardless of whether he has the right to work, we find it regrettable and a lack of respect that the son of a politician is ahead of the 16,000 unemployed people on the island of Lanzarote", Bermúdez indicated.

Faced with the complaint from Alternativa Ciudadana, the PIL will ask for explanations from both Sergio Machín and the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, to find out if "the issues of Lanzarote are going to come out with this type of negotiations, not thinking about the general interest, but in the deals of CC with the connivance of the PSOE".

"We expect an explanation to see if there has really been a change of cards, because Sergio Machín has not said anything yet and the vote took place, that is verifiable", Bermúdez recalled, who finds it "regrettable" that politicians "are making this type of deals, thinking about themselves and their families, and not about the citizens they represent". Therefore, Ramón Bermúdez hopes that the situation of CC in the Cabildo will not be resolved or redirected "with this type of deals". "If not, turn off the light and let's go", he indicated.

"He could change his position from now on"

Neither the PIL councilor nor the PP councilor dare to affirm that the government group will be able to count on Sergio Machín's vote from now on. "I don't know if he will continue in this line of voting with the government group, what we do know is that in the last plenary session he voted in favor. This is not accidental and if AC's accusations are confirmed, it could be that he changes his position from now on", Vázquez indicated.

The PP councilor finds it "very difficult to predict" the attitude that both Sergio Machín and Mónica Álvarez will adopt from now on, who abstained in the last plenary session on the government group's proposal. "Everything is unpredictable, because in politics I have seen everything and, suddenly, another one can get angry", he indicated.

The councilor also wanted to make it clear that the situation of the Cabildo's government group, which "does not have a majority and sometimes uses the president's casting vote" to move issues forward, "generates a lot of distrust". In addition, he has criticized the PSOE for being "a wallflower" in the Cabildo and for "playing an impressive role in everything it is putting up with".

The PSOE has also been the target of criticism from the PIL. "We regret the messes of CC, but also the connivance of the four PSOE councilors who look the other way. The PSOE in the Cabildo is in a worse situation than Sergio Machín in CC", Ramón Bermúdez summarized.
