The trial that was supposed to put Luis Lleó in the dock this Tuesday has had to be suspended and a new date has already been set for January. The problem has been the absence of several defense witnesses, who apparently had not been properly summoned. Two of them could not be located, while an incorrect address had been provided for a third.
The statement had been requested by the defense, which, in view of their absence, has requested that the trial be postponed. The absent witnesses were the former director of Bancaja in Arrecife, Ginés Rodríguez, the economist Jerónimo Campón and the lawyer Manuel Matamoros. All of them have had a relationship with Lleó and some have been linked to his businesses, as revealed by the summary of the Unión case, in which Luis Lleó is one of the main defendants and is still awaiting trial.
In addition, another witness who had been summoned did not appear this Tuesday either. In this case, the Court has proposed imposing a fine on her, unless she justifies the reasons for this absence in the trial. This witness was the accountant of Lleó's family business and her absence, together with that of the other three people who were due to appear, has also led the Prosecutor's Office to request the suspension of the hearing.
In the case that was to be tried this Tuesday, Lleó is accused of alleged crimes related to the administration of his family businesses. It was his own brother and nephew who denounced him, accusing him of having appropriated significant sums of money from the company, among other allegedly fraudulent operations.
As a private prosecution, his relatives are asking for him to be sentenced to 13 years in prison, a fine of 72,000 euros and compensation of 146,791 euros, while the Prosecutor's Office is demanding 4 years in prison and compensation of 70,449 euros. However, the trial will finally have to wait. After agreeing to suspend the hearing, the First Section of the Court has already set a new date, for the 17th and 18th of January.
