The Civic Center of Arrecife was packed at the presentation of the candidacies of Loli Corujo for the presidency of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Parliament of the Canary Islands and of Alfredo Mendoza for the mayoralty of Arrecife on the morning of this Saturday, April 29. Loli Corujo and Alfredo Mendoza were supported by the presence of Ángel Víctor Torres, PSOE candidate for re-election as president of the Canary Islands.

“Arrecife, one of the great priorities of the PSOE”

First, the candidate for mayor of Arrecife for the PSOE, Alfredo Mendoza, spoke, who revealed: “I want to be mayor because I intend for my children to grow up in a better Arrecife, with safe leisure areas, with shaded areas in the patios of their schools, with courts that are not full of patches, with streets reserved for pedestrian traffic.”

Alfredo Mendoza elaborated on what motivates him to achieve the mayoralty of the island's capital: “I want to be mayor of Arrecife because I aspire for my parents to enjoy their last years, and I want them to be many, in a city that is more friendly with squares, trees and services at the level they deserve after a lifetime of work.”

Mendoza also had words for the candidate for president of the Cabildo: “With the PSOE, the Cabildo has made Arrecife one of its great priorities, with more than 37 million euros invested in these four years, so Arrecife has never had so much political and economic support, nor so many works in progress as it has now, under the presidency of Loli Corujo.”

“For a socially and environmentally sustainable development”

Next, Loli Corujo took the floor, who began by talking about social rights and committed, “during my first year in office, to ensuring that all the services provided by the Cabildo to our elders and dependent people are managed from the island institution itself, and, in addition, they will receive the same services regardless of the economic capacity of their families.”

Loli Corujo continued with her commitment “to a socially and environmentally sustainable development because Lanzarote is saturated, and I say it loud and clear, so I will not be silenced by the reproaches of some business representative, nor the criticisms of the media of the landowners, nor the shouting of the parties that act as the political arm of those who see Lanzarote as an immense plot of land.”

She also assured: “We are going to give a 180-degree turn to public transport in Lanzarote; we are going to have more lines thinking about the humblest people, who have to travel daily to their place of work; we are going to coordinate with Arrecife the public transport so that people who leave our neighborhoods when it is barely dawn do not have to make transfers; and we are going to increase the capacity so that when they return in the late evening, exhausted, they do not feel the contempt that it means that a full bus leaves them on the ground.”

“The change in the Canary Islands needs more”

Her last words were for Ángel Víctor Torres. “We are the party to beat, because our adversaries know that in these four years the Socialist Party has fulfilled its commitment to the Canary Islands and they know that the PSOE and, above all, our colleague Ángel Víctor Torres, have earned the respect and trust of the people of this land,” she said.

“Never so much has been done for the islands and we have done it in the most difficult moments that this land has lived through, with the leadership and commitment of the best president that the Canary Islands has had: our colleague and candidate Ángel Víctor Torres, who is going to continue being president of the Canary Islands for four more years,” Loli Corujo concluded.

Ángel Víctor Torres, current president of the Canary Islands, closed the event, who renewed his commitment to the social majority in Lanzarote: “The change in the Canary Islands needs more.” Ángel Víctor Torres has stated that the social majority needs the PSOE to “continue in the Government to continue advancing in rights and reinforcing essential services such as health, education or care for dependent people.”

“With the truth ahead”

Torres has said that Loli Corujo “has done a great job at the head of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and that she has become a benchmark of the party at the national level, so she deserves an unmitigated victory in the elections that are held in just one month.”

The socialist general secretary and candidate for re-election as president of the Canary Islands has referred “to that which is called stability” and that “has made the last Government of the Canary Islands begin and end as it was formed”, to add: “It is curious that the only two times that this has happened has been with the PSOE in the Government.”

Looking ahead to the decision to be taken on May 28, Ángel Víctor Torres has invited citizens to compare everything done in these years of the Pacto de las Flores with previous governments: “With the truth ahead, on May 28 we are going to win the elections.”
