The candidate of Lanzarote en Pie (LeP) in Arrecife, Leticia Padilla, assures that her political formation "is not going to disappear" after not obtaining representation in the elections held this past Sunday, May 28. "It is not even a year old," she defended in front of the microphones of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
Padilla reveals that it is time to "self-criticize, sit down to talk and see what has failed" to know the reason for the electoral results that were received by the political formation as "a very big disappointment". At the same time, she affirms that "we have lacked time and consolidate the project". However, she asserts that "an insular party that focuses on local politics is necessary. I have many complaints to file."
Regarding how she is after the electoral setback, she reveals that "the difficult thing was Sunday night. On Monday we were already up and running and we are going to continue working. We will continue to be in opposition from the street because I think it is necessary. We must respect the vote of the citizens and the non-vote as well." The members of Lanzarote en Pie will meet on the afternoon of this Thursday to analyze the aforementioned results.
The list headed by Leticia Padilla for the Arrecife City Council obtained 3.56% of the votes, in total reaching 646 ballots. The sum of the votes of the left-wing parties that presented themselves separately to the capital city (Unidas Sí Podemos, Drago Verdes Canarias and Lanzarote en Pie) reaches 1,676 voters. Above the 1,380 that Vox achieved in the consistory.
Confrontation with Podemos
The spokesperson for Lanzarote En Pie assures that "she does not regret not having gone with Unidas Podemos" in the municipal elections of May 28. The former spokesperson for the opposition group Lanzarote Sí Podemos-Equo during the previous legislature criticized her former coalition partners before the microphones of Radio Lanzarote.
"It is easy to add up after the elections, there are sums that do not add up and parties that do not add up," she alluded to the violet formation during her intervention. "We decided to go it alone, being aware of the risk. They stopped participating in the coalition six months after being in the Arrecife city council, they have not contributed a motion or support. They were not there," Padilla insists.
At the same time, she points to Ester Gómez Brodsky (Verdes Equo), member of the coalition for which Leticia Padilla ran in the previous elections and who ran in these new elections with the party Drago Verdes Canarias, and criticizes that she has been "four years without presenting a motion. They have had in their hands the power to work for the Arrecife City Council and they have not done so. While all of them who are now running for elections, while they disappear for four years, we are going to work."
"I was not a defector and I was complying with the law. Equo Canarias, who are now running with Drago as the saviors of Arrecife, have not presented a motion and the only thing they have tried to do is break us, but even so our motions, complaints and the scrutiny we did to the government group have not been lacking," she adds. "With all this against us, we decided to go it alone and bet on a local project."
Criticism of the press
Leticia Padilla testifies that Televisión Canaria did not count on her political formation for the electoral debate of candidates for the Arrecife City Council. She also adds that "there are media outlets on the island that have not done an interview or published a press release." "I have been a councilor for four years," defends the Lanzarote en Pie during her intervention in Buenos días, Lanzarote.
"We have had to work having many things against us. We are a neighborhood party and we are going to continue working the next four years from the afternoon because there needs to be a critical voice," she concludes.
