The spokesperson for Lanzarote En Pie in the Arrecife City Council, Leticia Padilla, has requested the Island Council and the Government of the Canary Islands "to take precautionary measures to protect the historical-cultural heritage values of the emblematic Hotel Oriental”, after “Astrid Pérez's decision to grant a partial demolition license for said property”, located on the well-known Calle Real in the city of Arrecife.

“Lanzarote En Pie will ensure that the law is complied with and the identity of Arrecife is protected. It is outrageous that the Administration's neglect is the basis on which the demolition license is justified”, says Padilla. In this sense, she recalls that “the decision is based on the fact that there is no catalog in force, being that the person responsible for this is the City Council itself":"It's an absolute joke”, she denounces.

"This initiative will be supported by the judicial measures that our legal services consider appropriate, although we can already advance that we are already preparing the documentation to address the Prosecutor's Office to denounce what we consider a serious attack against the values of the historical heritage of Arrecife”.

In addition, Leticia Padilla has denounced “the obscurantism of the island government group around this cumbersome matter”. “On November 11, 2020, we requested the Heritage files on the Hotel Oriental and, to this day, we still have no response. We will also bring this to the attention of the justice system, because we believe that the Cabildo de Lanzarote is hindering our political work”, she concludes.
