The Court of First Instance No. 2 of Arrecife has admitted a lawsuit on fundamental rights filed by Juan Manuel Sosa against all the councilors of the Canary Coalition in the Cabildo of Lanzarote. The councilor believes that the formation "cannot expel him", having run on the lists "in coalition with San Borondón", not as a member of the party. Therefore, he has requested "precautionary measures" from the president and secretary of the Cabildo until the judge resolves whether to consider him a "non-attached councilor." A lawsuit that each of the councilors will have to respond to, and not the party.
The councilor stated to La Voz that on the website of the Canary Coalition it appears that "there was an electoral pact with San Borondón", and that number 5 on the lists for the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Arrecife corresponded to San Borondón. Furthermore, he points out that the president of CC and the president of SB "publicly stated that they were running in coalition."
However, Sosa explains that in the Electoral Board "it was not specified that they were going in coalition", but that, "in a self-serving way", the list was directly presented as if they were all running together in the same party. "I argue that despite the fact that CC, for whatever interests, did not put San Borondón on the Electoral Board, it did state it before the media and the public," Juan Manuel Sosa explains to La Voz de Lanzarote.
"Pedro San Ginés remained in power precisely because I was in a coalition with Nueva Canarias, and I was able to support him because of that," the councilor states in relation to the situation that existed in the past legislature, where he assures that "the Nueva Canarias-Frente Amplio coalition was registered with the Electoral Board." Sosa maintains that he was able to avail himself of this "so that he would not be declared a defector and non-attached."
Sosa assures that to avoid a similar situation, the Canary Coalition "did not put the name of San Borondón" on the Electoral Board, and from his point of view, they did it "in very bad faith."
In this way, and after the acceptance of the lawsuit for processing, the councilor has requested "precautionary measures" from the president and secretary of the Cabildo until the judge resolves whether he is in a situation of "non-attached."
