Las Cucharas beach has had to be closed to swimming again just three days after its opening after the passage of Hermine, as reported by the PP of Teguise.

The Popular Party demands that the Government of Teguise explain the closure to swimming this weekend at Las Cucharas beach. “It is the only beach with a blue flag in the municipality of Teguise and a tourist reference, as well as an open-sea recreation area enjoyed by many residents,” they add.

The popular representatives recall that the Barranco del Hurón flows into this beach, so if there is heavy rain, fecal spills from overflowing sewers end up in its waters. The councilor of the Popular Party, Nieves Arrocha, describes “the disastrous tourist image given by the municipality” with issues like this and urges the government group “to implement the necessary improvements to avoid this problem in the environment that is qualified with the blue flag.”

Nieves Arrocha highlights that the new closure has also led to the suspension of the jet ski championship the day before the event, which she insists had already been postponed last week due to the alert. “A new blow for fans and for the organization who have finally not been able to enjoy their favorite sport in the municipality of Teguise.”
