The Councilor for Tourism Promotion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and, in turn, president of the Board of Directors of the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), Ángel Vázquez (PP), will hold meetings next Wednesday, September 4, in Germany with senior executives of the tour operator Thomas Cook and the airline Eurowings, which will also be attended by the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, and the vice president of Asolan, Héctor Pulido, representing the Lanzarote Tourist Federation.
The island promotion entity will thus begin the round of meetings it plans to hold with the main air agents and tour operators in order to minimize the impact on the island's connectivity that will be caused by the closure on January 8 of the base that Ryanair has at the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, according to the airline itself.
According to Ángel Vázquez, these meetings will have as their main objective "to offer lines of collaboration and show the attractions that make Lanzarote a non-standardized destination, so that both airlines and tour operators increase their commitment to the island in the short, medium and long term".
Thus, the island delegation will offer in both meetings an updated presentation of the destination proposal in which the different product lines will be included, such as the sports, gastronomic, cultural or events offer, or the modern and renovated accommodation plant that the island has.
Presence of senior executives
On the other hand, Ángel Vázquez has valued as "very positive the fact that these meetings on German soil will be attended by senior executives" both from Thomas Cook - a group to which the German airline based in Frankfurt Condor belongs - and from Eurowings - dependent on the airline Lufthansa and based in Dusseldorf - "because it speaks of the good perception that Lanzarote has as a destination".
To these two meetings, according to the councilor, will be added in the coming weeks others that SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote plans to hold with the same objectives with representatives of the most important Spanish airlines such as Iberia, Air Europa and Vueling, as well as easyJet, Jet2, Volotea or Norwegian, among other tour operators.
