Lanzarote and La Graciosa will remain at level 2 of health alert and also this Friday the restrictions for Holy Week will come into force, which will remain until 00:00 on April 9.

Due to this holiday period and the fact that the evolution of the pandemic in the Canary Islands is "at a stationary point that we cannot lower", the Government Council this Thursday has not modified the alert levels of any of the islands. Thus, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura will continue at level 3 and La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro at level 1.

However, until April 9, the additional restrictions approved for Holy Week will be applied, so that mobility between islands will be limited. It should be remembered that those who travel from one island to another must provide a negative Covid test. Only those who travel between Lanzarote and La Graciosa and those who travel for justified reasons, such as work or health reasons, will be exempt, although they must carry with them a responsible declaration indicating the reasons for their trip, as explained at a press conference by the spokesman for the Canarian Government, Julio Pérez.

As for meetings, during Holy Week they will be limited to four people on all the islands regardless of their alert levels, a measure that will also affect the hotel and catering industry. In the case of meetings in homes or other private spaces, they will be prohibited, and only people who are cohabitants may remain inside them.

With respect to the curfew, in the case of Lanzarote it will be between 22:00 and 06:00 hours during Holy Week, as in the islands that are at level 3. As for level 1, circulation will be limited between 23:00 and 06:00 hours.

The spokesman for the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, has made an appeal to the population to "extreme" compliance with the measures against Covid, since at the moment the archipelago is moving around two hundred daily cases and "we can not get the cases to fall below that figure and therefore the accumulated incidence".

And, although he believes that the majority of the population complies with the measures, he considers that "there must be redoubts" that do not manage to reach or "groups that do not comply". For this reason, he insisted that "the population should be aware that, despite the improvement, the spread of the virus persists at levels that we cannot accept and that we want to reduce".
