The Juan Brito Canarian Foundation has taken a decisive step in its strategic roadmap for the year 2026 with the constitution of its first Advisory Council. In a working session held on February 27, at the Lancelot Hotel in Arrecife, fourteen prominent experts from various areas —ethnography, architecture, archaeology, art, and education— have met to lay the foundations for the new stage of the institution.
Under the motto Memory of tomorrow, the meeting served to present an urgent diagnosis on the state of the island's heritage. The data collected by the Foundation reveal a unanimous concern: 100% of the experts consulted warn about the deterioration of heritage, pointing to tourist pressure and the lack of generational replacement as the main challenges.
The President of the Foundation highlighted in his welcome the value of expert knowledge, inviting those present to become the "compass" that guides the entity's projects. For his part, the Director of the Foundation emphasized that this body "is not born as an imposition, but as a tool for the specialists themselves to be able to execute projects that directly impact the well-being of Lanzarote residents."
The Juan Brito Foundation thus reaffirms its commitment to follow in the footsteps of its founder, betting on a "natural pedagogy" that brings technical knowledge closer to the citizenry, with a special focus on the young people and the elderly of the island.
