Lanzarote has become the first island in the archipelago in which all its institutions have joined the Canary Islands Strategy for Equal Transition (ECTI).

The Plenary Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted this Tuesday the act of adhesion of the seven town councils of the island to this challenge for equality, thus following in the wake of the first island corporation, which already joined in March this work plan promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands.

Through their adhesion, the town councils and the Cabildo of Lanzarote open the doors to the training of all their personnel, who will receive three courses with the title Canary Islands Diverse, which will serve to "dismantle the symbolic borders and provide them with tools to communicate in an inclusive way and to be able to adapt their work in times of equality and diversity", they point out from the Cabildo.

"Lanzarote is in luck today", said the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, who stressed that this adhesion "shows that the island is truly committed to equality, in capital letters".

Specifically, the Lanzarote administrations have formalized their commitment on the International Day against LGBTIfobia, which is commemorated every May 17.

"Cabildo and town councils are called to be the first to incorporate new values that eradicate discrimination linked to sexual orientation, identity, gender expression, sexual characteristics or any other personal consideration", explains Corujo, and adds that "it will be fundamental to make the right to grow and develop in full equality a reality".

For her part, the Deputy Minister of Equality and Diversity of the Canary Islands Government, Sylvia Jaén, agrees and states the importance of administrations taking the first step to join the challenge of equality set by the Government.

"A sum that has an added value because administrations are essential agents of the equal transition, they serve as an example to companies and citizens and can guarantee public attention that breaks the symbolic borders that build exclusion to diversity", she insists.

The ECTI is an action program that aims to generate the necessary instruments to provide the islands with a cultural base that strengthens the right to grow in full equality without discrimination linked to sexual orientation, identity, gender expression, sexual characteristics or any other related personal consideration.

The event was presided over by the Deputy Minister of Equality and Diversity of the Regional Executive, Sylvia Jaén, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the Minister of Equality of the island institution, Myriam Barros, and mayors and heads of Equality of the seven municipalities of the island were present.
