Lanzarote en Pie has formally registered as a political party, three years after having given its name to the coalition between Podemos and Equo for the past elections.
Initially, LEP was presented as a "citizen platform", although some of its most visible faces were officials of the purple formation, such as Leticia Padilla. Later, when an attempt was made to close a coalition between left-wing parties - from which both Izquierda Unida and Somos Lanzarote ended up disassociating themselves - that name was used for the coalition's brand, which was called Lanzarote en Pie - Sí Podemos.
However, it is now that LEP has formally become a political party. Its registration in the register of the Ministry of the Interior is dated last Wednesday, June 22, with address in Rosa Street in Arrecife.
In that registry, only "Laetitia Christelle Padilla Padilla" appears as representative of the party, as "coordinator". Padilla was general secretary of Podemos in Arrecife and is currently still a councilor in the capital, although she has left the formation for which she went to the elections.
The councilor has been defending that she presented herself for Lanzarote en Pie, which is now when it formally becomes a party. Together with Leticia Padilla, other councilors such as the one from Yaiza, Ramiro Muñoz, left Podemos a year and a half ago, and could run in the next elections under this new party.
