Lanzarote En Pie has filed a complaint with the Local Police of Arrecife for the demolition of two houses located in the city center, as it maintains that it was carried out "without the necessary permits."
According to councilor Leticia Padilla, the events took place last Sunday, August 14, at numbers 3 and 5 of Hermanos Zerolo Street. After learning of both demolitions, the councilor states that she went to the Department of Urban Planning to request access to the file and confirm whether said work had a municipal license, as the workers who were working "hurriedly" on the demolition of the houses had told her.
In the response received from the Technical Office of the City Council, it is indicated that there was "a request for demolition of the described properties, whose authorization was conditional on the correction of a series of deficiencies, including the approval of the Heritage area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote."
For the spokesperson of Lanzarote En Pie, "the matter is even more serious, if we take into account that the works subject to the complaint not only lack a urban planning license, but both properties are included in a list of properties with heritage values that must be protected, prepared by the Cabildo of Lanzarote."

In this regard, Lanzarote En Pie recalls that "on February 24, 2017, taking into account the municipal powers and obligations in the conservation and preservation of heritage values, a letter was issued by the Historical Heritage Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, by which the Arrecife City Council was informed of the existence of a list of properties that were worthy of protection, among which were the properties located at Hermanos Zerolo street numbers 3, 5 and 10."
"It seems that there is an increase in actions of this type in the city of Arrecife," says Padilla, who has expressed her "concern." She also stressed that "to demolish any building it is necessary to have prior authorization from the City Council and have a security protocol for it." "It is incomprehensible how the Council is not aware of what is happening in the very center of the city and in full view of everyone," she questions.
