This Christmas, the Arrecife City Council has made changes to the location of the Cavalcade of Kings and the ice rink, among others, due to the closure of Avenida Fred Olsen and the fairgrounds.
In an interview this Monday morning on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, the city council's Festivities Councilor, Echedey Eugenio, highlighted the various events that the council has prepared.
"Christmas will officially begin this Thursday in Arrecife," he pointed out. Although the lighting in the city center has kicked off the festivities, "the lighting is still being placed in the different neighborhoods, precisely the last lights," added the councilor.
A Christmas lights switch-on that has generated criticism from merchants and residents. To which Eugenio responded by acknowledging the criticisms: "We need to plan and work better and inform citizens," in relation to the decisions that begin to be made that directly affect citizens. "To improve, we must listen to the complaints of merchants and residents and take them into account," he said.
Activities for December 2023
The Arrecife City Council has prepared a "spectacular" Christmas, with activities "to the taste and enjoyment of everyone, both young and old," Eugenio revealed. The Christmas program that, according to the councilor, has been designed with "much love", will not only be "developed in the center", each neighborhood will have its own prominence with various events throughout the month of December. "We want the neighborhoods to once again be protagonists," they wish as their main objective.

The program will bring "many surprises" and will consist of workshops, activities, Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men passing through all the neighborhoods, among many other things. The three most prominent stages of the city will be: Ramírez Cerdá Park, Islas Canarias Park and La Plazuela. With the novelty of the celebration of the 'Christmas Fair' and the introduction of the ice rink, changing location and being placed in the Ginory lot.
The four stages prepared to attract the Christmas spirit to Arrecife will feature performances by local groups and traditional groups, cultural workshops from socio-cultural centers and many more activities, such as the Christmas Village in the Plaza del Almacén. What will mark the distinction will be the inauguration of the Christmas Nativity Scene on December 1 in Ramírez Cerdá Park. A space that "we already have almost ready," confirmed the councilor for festivities.
The great novelty of Christmas 2023 will be the change of location of the Grand Cavalcade of Kings, for which it has "been necessary to modify its route, so it will depart from Puerto Naos to pass through Valterra and end in the Islas Canarias park," he announced. A decision taken due to the works being carried out on Avenida Fred Olsen. After the Cavalcade, it will end with the Christmas Concert in the Islas Canarias Park, a show that "everyone has to come and see," he encouraged citizens to attend.
From the city council, they intend to turn Arrecife into a "dynamic city", in which citizens have the feeling that "things are being done," said Echedey Eugenio. For this reason, there will be different surprises, among which he highlights "one that will take place at sea," he added. Although "we cannot reveal anything at the moment," he assured.
