The Arrecife City Council has reported that, starting this Monday, July 27, diversions and traffic restrictions will come into effect in the Cuatro Esquinas area due to the start of the stormwater drainage network works in this enclave in the center of the capital.
The work will be carried out at the intersection where León y Castillo, Cienfuegos, Francos, Pérez Galdós, and Jacinto Borges streets converge, one of the busiest areas in the city.
The mayor of Arrecife and head of the Public Works Department, Yonathan de León, has stated that the action will be carried out during the summer weeks to coincide with a lower presence of vehicles and before the arrival of the Pino tides, scheduled for September.
As explained by the City Council, the works are complementary to those already underway on Jacinto Borges street, next to the Ribera del Charco, and include the installation of drains, which this point currently lacks, as well as the construction of underground chambers for future stormwater pumping stations.
The Council reminds that the center of Arrecife is at sea level and that rainwater from streets located at higher elevations flows into this area, which necessitates improving the drainage infrastructure.
The City Council indicates that these actions are part of the works to expand the stormwater drainage network in various parts of the city, such as the surroundings of Charco de San Ginés and Vía Medular, between Puerto de Naos and León y Castillo street. In addition to these interventions, drains will be installed in more than twenty streets in the neighborhoods of Argana and Maneje by the Insular Water Council. The planned investment in stormwater drainage works during the term is around five million euros.
Regarding traffic, the councilor for Mobility and Transport, Mario González Altube, has explained that the diversions have been scheduled after the resurfacing of several streets in El Lomo has been completed.
During this weekend, the informational signage will be installed, and from Monday the 27th, there will be restrictions and diversions in Cienfuegos, Francos, León y Castillo, Pérez Galdós, Gran Canaria, and Jacinto Borges streets.
