The Popular Party of Lanzarote already has a consensus candidate to face the change at the head of the formation. The current president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, has accepted the proposal of the popular party to assume the leadership of the party and will be the candidate for the presidency in the insular congress that will be held on November 7. A single consensus candidacy is expected.
This is what sources close to the Popular Party indicate to this medium, placing the agreement in recent dates, after several months of conversations aimed at finding a profile capable of garnering the support of the different sensitivities of the party.
The operation also contemplates the departure of the current insular president, Astrid Pérez, who would be willing to step aside after almost two decades at the head of the Popular Party of Lanzarote. The same sources especially highlight Pérez's gesture, which they describe as "political generosity," in facilitating a negotiated transition.
In this way, he would voluntarily facilitate the change and the arrival of a new leader with a different profile, contributing to the PP being able to face a new stage with a consensus candidacy.

In the agreement for José Valle to jump into politics, the president of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, has played a particularly relevant role.
According to the sources consulted, in addition to the support of the popular party members from Lanzarote, Domínguez's direct participation would have been decisive in definitively convincing the president of the Chamber of Commerce to accept the challenge.
The conversations would have crystallized at the end of August, when Valle would have communicated his willingness to the Popular Party in Lanzarote. The choice of Valle responds, precisely, to the will to build a transversal and consensus candidacy, projecting an image of renewal to the outside.
From business associations to politics
With José Valle, the Popular Party incorporates a leader with a career closely linked to the business world and civil society of Lanzarote.
Valle is currently president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and of the Circle of Entrepreneurs of Lanzarote, and has also developed part of his career in organizations such as ATA and in the field of young entrepreneurs.
His activity at the head of these organizations has placed him for years in permanent contact with businessmen, social organizations, and public administrations, building an image of an interlocutor and a man of consensus.
The sources consulted consider precisely that profile one of his main assets for facing the new responsibility. Valle has maintained good institutional relations with the different presidents of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands with whom he has coincided during his business career, regardless of their political color.
That capacity for dialogue and his transversal character would have been some of the arguments used by the Popular Party to suggest that he assume the leadership of the party.
A succession agreed upon after almost twenty years
The insular congress on November 7 will mark. Sources close to the party consulted by this media insist that Pérez's decision to facilitate the succession should be interpreted as a gesture of generosity and political responsibility.
The operation would allow the Lanzarote PP to begin a new stage with a candidate who does not come from the traditional structures of the party and who has extensive knowledge of the island's economic and institutional fabric.
José Valle will now have the challenge of transferring to the political sphere the profile of dialogue and consensus that he has developed during his years of business activity. The congress on November 7 will be the setting in which, foreseeably, a new stage of the Popular Party of Lanzarote will be formalized and officially opened.
