The Renovating Movement of Tinajo considers unacceptable the "new shame" that the mayor, Jesús Machín, is making the municipality live. “It is a real scandal that the City Council and public facilities are left without water for not having paid a single bill for four years”, denounces the president of the party, Antonio Morales, who considers that this explains the attitude that the mayor has maintained until now with Canal Gestión.
“The suspicion that we had that he was hiding something has been confirmed, because the passivity he has shown in the defense of the neighbors was not normal, who have lived and continue to live a calvary with the lack of water supply. What was the mayor doing in the meantime? Not paying the bills and keeping silent about that problem, so that it would not be known that he is a defaulter”, Morales criticizes.
“We have presented up to six motions so that the City Council would address the Consortium to demand solutions to the water cuts in the municipality, and the mayor only went around in circles. He was not critical of Canal Gestión and sometimes even justified the company”, insists Morales, who recalls that they have been asking for more than a year for Jesús Machín to appear in the Plenary to explain if he has done anything to demand the improvement of the service.
“Now we understand why he refused to appear, why he never convened the extraordinary Plenary that he had promised on this issue and why he has not requested the convocation of the Water Consortium. Now we understand why he has not wanted to take the poor service of Ganal Gestión to the Courts, as we asked from the Renovating Movement. He has turned his back on the neighbors and has left them abandoned to their fate because he had a debt and did not want it to be known”, laments the president of the MRT. In addition, Antonio Morales considers shameful the explanations that Jesús Machín has given after this regrettable episode, even stating that he found out 20 days ago what was happening.
“The saddest thing of all is that he always blames others. He never assumes responsibilities. He is always looking for culprits everywhere”, he questions, recalling that the mayor “has been in the administration for many years and should already know how it works”.
“How is it possible that they have sent him 21 requirements for four years, that he has been four years without paying the bills and has not found out about this story? You have to know if you are up to date in the payments of essential services, such as water, electricity and telephone. That's for starters. And secondly, if you have not been informed -which is a lie, because you are informed, but assuming it were true-, you will have to investigate and ask for responsibilities from those who have not informed him”, he adds.
“On top of that, he has the little shame and the nerve to say that since others don't pay and also owe, what does it matter. They seem like childish things”, criticizes Morales, who considers that Tinajo “does not deserve a mayor like that”. “We are appearing in the press only for bad news and for breaking the law. The problems of the garbage; the traffic accident he had when everyone was confined except him, who
was partying; now we find out that he does not pay the water bills... It cannot be. He is a disoriented mayor, without responsibility, who is leading the municipality to a critical situation”, warns the MRT.
“Tinajo does not deserve a person with these manners, who also does nothing, nor defends the interests of the municipality. Tinajo deserves a responsible person, with more desire to work, with more enthusiasm, and of course who manages the administration well, and who is not leading the City Council to this situation”, he insists. “Unfortunately, this attitude of the mayor of Tinajo does not surprise us, because for some time now he thinks that he is above the law, and that he can skip it whenever he considers it appropriate. And that he does not answer the requirements of Canal Gestión is also nothing new, because he never answers the writings presented by the neighbors, nor the opposition, nor anyone. It is the least transparent City Council in Lanzarote, recognized by the Commissioner of Transparency of the Canary Islands”, concludes the MRT.
