Once again, as has happened in other summers, the Municipal Police has ordered the lifting of the camps that are usually established in several beaches of the municipality of Tinajo, such as the beach of "Las Malvas", "La Isleta" and "La Santa", arguing that the law does not allow camps, they cannot be established in public domain.

Jesús Machín, mayor of Tinajo, has tried to intercede by talking to the President of the Cabildo, Manuela Armas. "I have asked them to leave people alone for this summer and that we sit down to look for solutions so that next summer it does not happen again." One of the solutions could be the habilitation of camping areas, according to what he has declared.

Several of the campers have addressed their complaint to the mayor, arguing that it seems unfair that they cannot camp in public domain when President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero goes to spend the summer on the island, spending his stay in a house that is also in public domain.

How do I explain to my people that they cannot camp in Las Malvas or La Santa and that the president of the government is going to settle in a house, which will be legally, but is in public domain?, Jesús Machín has declared.

"For me it is a pride that the president has chosen our island as a tourist destination, but all I ask is that they do not bother the humble people," he said on the other hand.

"With the construction, the people of Lanzarote have been taken away from Pechiguera and Papagayo, where we used to go 25 years ago, I agree that the law exists but we must support the people of our land", says Machín.
