Heritage promotes two other BIC, on the El Diablo restaurant in Timanfaya and Manrique's house in Haría

The announcement was published this Monday in the Official Gazette and implies that they already enjoy protection during the process

El Diablo Restaurant in Timanfaya

The Department of Historical Heritage of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has initiated two other BIC files, this time to protect the El Diablo restaurant in the Timanfaya National Park and the César Manrique's house in Haría.

The start of both files was published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, and is in addition to those that have just been opened on Jameos del Agua and its auditorium, the Church of San Marcial and the historical complex that surrounds it and three buildings on Calle Real: the old Oriental hotel, El Mercadillo and the building that housed the Tamaragua store.

The initiation of this process to recognize these spaces as an Asset of Cultural Interest means that they already enjoy the same protection as if they were declared, to avoid interventions during this time that could distort their values.

This implies that only maintenance, rehabilitation or restoration works can be carried out, but without affecting the property.

In the case of the El Diablo restaurant, the technical report on which the opening of the file is based highlights that "important architectural and artistic values converge." Regarding Manrique's house in Haría, which can be visited within the route offered by the Foundation, there was a first attempt to declare it a BIC almost two decades ago, but the file was finally archived 17 years later, and now a new one has been initiated.
