The Ministry of Health is considering the possibility of allowing British minors to enter the national territory with a single dose of the Covid vaccine and a negative test, and not with the complete schedule as is currently mandatory. This was announced by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, who, in response to requests made by the tourist employers of the archipelago, says that he has been addressing this issue with Minister Carolina Darias for days. And the current restrictions affect the arrival of tourists to the archipelago and could condition the Easter campaign.
"I have been talking to the Ministers of Health and Tourism and with the Canary Islands tourism employers for weeks," Torres said. In this sense, he pointed out that the employers requested in December 2021 the relaxation of the health measures that "prevented British families from coming to spend their holidays in the Canary Islands", although he explained that this was something that was not considered viable at the time, since the islands had "up to 7,000 daily infections."
"When it was requested in December it was complicated, but now, when we have 1,000 cases a day, Minister Darias is working on a possible solution that must have the approval of the health criteria," he said.
Torres is convinced that "in the coming days" there may be a solution to this issue, which distances the British tourist market from the Canary Islands in these months. In addition, it coincides with the fact that the United Kingdom itself has announced that from February 11 it will "relax the restrictions imposed in recent weeks to try to stop the spread of Covid-19."
"It must be done by combining economy with health criteria. We are talking about minors being able to enter with a single vaccination schedule reinforced with a PCR or other detection test. The will of the Spanish Government is to find a solution that has scientific endorsement and I am convinced that all these loyal conversations that we are maintaining will lead to success in the coming days," said the Canary Islands president.
