Health provides one million euros to the San Bartolomé Health Center for air conditioning works

These works, awarded last October, will allow these facilities to be adapted to current regulations and to be energy efficient

The Minister of Health, Esther Monzón, informed this Thursday in the Health Commission of the Parliament of the Canary Islands about the upcoming start of the comprehensive renovation of the electrical facilities and the installation of an air conditioning system at the San Bartolomé Health Center, to which an investment of one million euros will be allocated.

These works, awarded last October, will allow these facilities to be adapted to current regulations and to be energy-efficient. Furthermore, they are a priority for the safety and well-being of patients and professionals working at the center, considering that episodes of high temperatures are increasingly frequent, Monzón detailed.

It is a center from 1990, in good condition, but it lacks an air conditioning system, the installation of which involves the integral modification of the low-voltage electrical systems, he explained.

 

Review of the new Playa Honda center project

The Minister of Health also informed the Health Commission of the Parliament of the Canary Islands about the situation of the new Playa Honda Health Center project, on which she emphasized Health's "firm commitment" to move forward with this new centerHowever, he detailed that the architectural project drafted in 2022 **must be modified to incorporate the existing facilities on the plot ceded** by the San Bartolomé City Council and the adaptation of the construction area to the current functional plan, from October of this year.Monzón reiterated that "the planned work represents a large-scale project, which will allow the creation of a new Basic Health Zone on the island and will provide the municipality with a modern facility, capable of responding to the future health needs of the municipality's population, which currently has 9,150 health cards."

 

8.5 million for investments in 2026

The counselor emphasized the commitment of the Canary Islands Government to strengthening the network of care centers in this municipality and on the island. In this regard, she specified that the budget for the Lanzarote Area Directorate will grow by 10.9% in 2026 and that of the Health Services Management by 6.1%, with an investment forecast in infrastructure of 8.5 million euros.
