The Haría City Council, the Teguise City Council and the Yaiza City Council have reported this Friday afternoon the suspension of all outdoor activities in both municipalities after the activation of the maximum alert due to high temperatures, decreed by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The suspension especially affects activities scheduled between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, the time slot in which the most extreme temperatures are expected.
Among the events affected by this measure, the cancellation of the Haría Craft Market, scheduled for Saturday, August 9, stands out. In addition, the Teguise Street Market will also be suspended, as sources from the City Council have informed La Voz.
The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, declares that "this situation requires the utmost institutional responsibility. Above all is the safety of our neighbors, as well as those who visit our municipality." "From the City Council, we appeal to citizen collaboration to take extreme precautions and follow the instructions of the competent authorities at all times," he adds.
The Haría City Council reminds the population of preventive recommendations, such as avoiding direct exposure to the sun, hydrating frequently, reducing physical activity during the central hours of the day, and paying special attention to vulnerable people, such as the elderly, children, and people with chronic diseases.
Meanwhile, the Yaiza City Council, in response to the maximum alert for high temperatures decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands during a large part of Saturday and the activation of the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN), has also suspended all outdoor activities between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. this Saturday, August 9.
Yaiza has thus joined the recommendations of the competent administrations and emergency entities that ask to take extreme measures to prevent and avoid risks associated with weather conditions, including staying in the shade, drinking water, and avoiding physical exercise during the hours of maximum alert.
