The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León Machín, announced this Friday that the city will be reinforced during the carnival celebrations with a special deployment comprising **more than 50 officers**, including members of the **Local Police, National Police, and Civil Protection**, in addition to personnel from municipal departments assigned to the 2026 Carnival Security PlanYonathan de León, who is also the direct head of the Local Police, presided this morning over the Local Security Board, held in the plenary hall, for the coordination of all areas of the City Council, along with the Security and Law Enforcement Corps, plus the support and presence of the members of Civil Protection, a unit attached to the Department of Security and Emergencies, led by councilman Kevin Cortés, present at this coordination meetingDuring the development of the Local Security Board, the drafting technician detailed all the **organizational aspects, road closures and diversions, and locations where these security and surveillance reinforcements will be**. In this meeting, along with the mayor, the deputy mayor and councilor for Festivals, Echedey Eugenio, the councilor for Transport and Mobility, Mario González Altube, and the councilor for Security and Emergencies, Kevin Cortés, participated, along with the manager of the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies ConsortiumThe mayor of Arrecife has detailed that the reinforcement and surveillance will be centered on the five main areas where the central events of the carnival will take place. During this Friday the 6th and Wednesday the 18th, protection and security will be reinforced, mostly, in the so-called Fairgrounds, next to the esplanade in El Reducto, the Islas Canarias Park, Boca del Muelle, El Almacén and the renovated square next to the church of San Ginés which is becoming one of the poles of dynamization of the city, with the impulse of the City Council. In addition, this security will be very present in the parades of the Carnival Parade and the Burial of the Sardine

The City Council already has, since this weekend, the deployment of security and the reinforcements contemplated in the approved security plan for the 2026 carnival festivities. The carnivals kick off this Friday the 6th with the proclamation, by the Murga Afilarmónica Los Tabletúos, in Parque Islas Canarias. And during this weekend the program includes the Traditional and Day Carnival, children's murga and canine costume contests, and performances by Duncan Dhu, Alejo Stivel, and Antonia San Juan
