Half a hundred people collaborated last Saturday in a beach cleaning day in the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches, in the municipality of Yaiza.

In total, nearly 30 divers, 20 land volunteers and kayak support staff participated. On this occasion, the day was concentrated in two emblematic places in the south of Lanzarote, Playa Mujeres and Papagayo. The group collected numerous plastics, cans, cigarette butts, bottles and metals, among other polluting waste, from both the seabed and the beach and its surroundings on both beaches.

"I appreciate the good work of the volunteers who since 2018 have been committed to these cleaning days of our coastline, organized by the companies Pura Vida and Kayak Lanzarote, to whom we offer municipal logistical support, and also informative, because we are in tune with the objectives of this continuous campaign: to free spaces from garbage and above all to raise awareness among the population about the care of the natural environment”, says the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda.

For her part, the Councilor for the Environment of Yaiza, Águeda Cedrés, a regular volunteer at the conferences, highlights “the high participation of children and adults", and her conviction that the sum of small efforts on the planet "helps to preserve the environment that welcomes us". "From Yaiza we will continue in this task of raising awareness with practical actions such as those we carry out together with the team of volunteers”, added the mayor.
