Primero Teguise has requested that the Teguise town hall "support" the families of Soo and demand from the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands a modification of the school transport route for IES Teguise so that the service includes a stop in the town starting from the 2026/2027 academic year.
Currently, students from Soo who will study at IES Teguise do not have pick-up in their town, so their families must travel to Famara so they can access the school bus; a situation that causes significant harm to work-life balance and forces minors to start their day even earlier.
As the families themselves have reported, there will be nine students from Soo who want to use school transport next year. Furthermore, they propose an alternative that they consider perfectly viable: modify the route so that, instead of going directly from Mozaga to Famara, the bus first passes through Soo, continues to Famara, and then heads to IES Teguise. Likewise, they propose that on the return journey Soo be the last stop on the route.
From Primero Teguise, they recall that the competence to establish routes corresponds to the Ministry of Education, but they consider that "the town hall cannot remain on the sidelines of a reasonable demand from its residents."
“The town hall must act as a representative of the municipality's families and defend before the Ministry those improvements that contribute to making our residents' daily lives easier. Half an hour on the way there and half an hour on the way back is a nuisance and a problem for many families who may not be able to take their children due to work or family issues,” explained Jonás Álvarez, councilor for PTG.
The party believes that the municipal administration "must anticipate the planning for next year and formally request that this modification be studied before the start of classes, preventing families from having to assume a situation that could be corrected with a small adjustment to the route."
In the words of Jonás Álvarez, “we are back to square one and the origin of all these problems over the last 3 years: lack of foresight and planning. Connecting payments with bus transport should always be on the table. Planning is done through monitoring, and the town hall should, in one way or another, know when and how its residents will need it.”
First Teguise has also shown its support for the families who are preparing a letter addressed to the Ministry of Education and trusts that "both administrations will work together to find a solution that allows for the provision of school transport services under conditions of greater equity for all students in the municipality, regardless of the town in which they reside".
