The Firefighters Association of the Federation of Services to the Citizenry of the Canary Islands Trade Union Confederation (FSC-CCOO) has denounced that the public employment offer (OPE) of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium "does not cover all the planned positions". The trade union organization believes that the staff can be "reduced by six professionals" and has submitted a statement of allegations warning that, if it is not addressed, it will initiate an administrative litigation appeal.
As explained in a statement, the latest OPE approved and published in the Official Gazette of the Province on April 17, 2020 established "38 positions for firefighters and driver firefighters" and "currently, as a result of this OPE, the Lanzarote Consortium has a total of eleven interim officials covering vacancies."
However, the CCOO Firefighters Association states that in the call that has now been published "only five positions are being called" and that is why it believes that "they may be incurring in an amortization of six jobs." "This will mean that after the process is completed, they will have a smaller number of positions than those currently reflected and therefore budgeted in the Employment Offer," he points out.
In view of this, FSC-CCOO affirms that it has presented several documents at the Negotiation Table prior to the approval of the positions called, insisting that "they should call at least eleven positions for firefighters and driver firefighters, in addition to the vacancies that may occur until the time of appointment and a reserve list." However, he assures that "the management and administration of the Consortium has not accepted the proposal to cover the eleven positions."
Other allegations
In the letter submitted to the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, the Firefighters Association of the Federation of Services to the Citizenry of the Canary Islands Trade Union Confederation also insists on the need to clarify different aspects of the call.
Among them, it points out the duration of the reserve list and its regulation; the training and remuneration that should be applied to officials during the internship period; the establishment of items in the tests and practical cases; and the way to assess and establish the scores and measures in the physical aptitude test, "where marks are established that are even above those established as minimums for the athletics federation, in addition to insufficient criteria to guarantee the possibility of female firefighter candidates for fair marks in accordance with the legal frameworks of equality."
FSC-CCOO hopes that the administration of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium "complies with its obligation to increase the number of personnel and, consequently, respects the approved Employment Offer and does not generate a detriment to the service, given that efforts are currently being made by the personnel, carrying out a structural day precisely to cover the staff deficit."
