The new mayor of the Haría City Council, Evelia García, has announced that she will finally not delegate any area to Armando Bonilla, councilor of the Canarian Coalition, "due to lack of trust".
Evelia García has made this decision after the absence of the CC councilor in the extraordinary plenary session of inauguration held this Tuesday, July 12, in the El Aljibe Room. "I anticipate that I will not delegate internal management to that councilor because I cannot trust him," the mayor said on Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero, where she also criticized the "disloyalty" and the "total offense" that Bonilla's absence represents in her opinion.
The mayor also recalled that this is not the first time that Armando Bonilla has not followed the discipline of his party. She also highlighted that in the plenary session of the addendum of the Cueva de los Verdes, the nationalist councilor decided to abstain and now, in addition, he has not attended the plenary session. "It seems disloyal to me, and that is why he will not be in my Government", she adds.
The newly appointed mayor of Haría acknowledges that this decision she has made "could cause a crisis in the Haría pact", but assures that her arrival at the Mayor's Office "is not to grab a seat". "I am aware that they can present a motion against me, but I am very clear about what my precepts are, why I am here and where I am going. My hand does not tremble to make decisions, each one is responsible for their actions", she points out.
Likewise, Evelia García has announced that she will carry out an "analysis" of the rest of the areas and the internal functioning of them. "We have been in a government group with CC, in which we had some areas, and there were others to which we did not have access and of which I directly do not know the functioning", the mayor points out. Therefore, she proposes that "depending on the evolution of that analysis", she could make a restructuring of the areas distributed in the Government group of Haría. "I am always going to think about what is best for the citizens of Haría, because it is my responsibility", she adds.
Evelia García criticizes the “offensive” press release from the PSOE
The inauguration Plenary of Evelia García as mayor of Haría had, in addition to the notable absence of Armando Bonilla, that of the three councilors of the PSOE, who announced last Monday that they were not going to attend due to the lack of consensus on the date of the Plenary.
For the current mayor, the absence from the Plenary was “quite offensive”, but she emphasizes even more how “offensive” she found the press release sent from the PSOE. “In the same communication they spoke of a flower woman, of the little independence or capacity of the new mayor of the municipality”, García points out.
“I was surprised, because we are talking about a party that has always defended the female figure and gender equality, and that its highest island representative is a woman”, asserts the new mayor of Haría, who adds that she “does not understand” how the PSOE “has not publicly apologized for those statements”, since she assures that they are “really offensive towards women”.
“What happens that because I am a woman I do not have criteria or decision-making capacity? Do I need a hand? We cannot allow this in the media”, adds the mayor.
Likewise, responding to the controversy over the date of the inauguration Plenary, Evelia García recognizes that, despite being a person “of consensus”, there are times when “a consensus cannot be reached”. García assures that she tried to celebrate it on a day “that there would be the largest number of councilors”, and that on the 12th only Alfredo Villalba was missing, while on the 13th the councilor Soraya Brito could not attend.
In addition, Evelia García assures that for medical reasons of her daughter, both she and her husband would have to be absent if it had been on the 13th, and that being the inauguration of the mayor, she wanted her family to be there”. “It was convened on the 12th because it was when the most councilors could be there”, she concludes.
