Although Equo Verdes announced this Tuesday its break with Lanzarote en Pie, the party has not been able to clarify whether its two councilors in Arrecife will comply with the mandate and leave the political group in the City Council. In the case of Esther Gómez, she has participated in the press conference and her position is clear, but the doubt lies with her colleague Leandro Delgado, who is closer to Leticia Padilla.
“The question is understood, but I would wait and see. In the mandate of the assembly, which is approved unanimously, are the two councilors. That has been done and from today, we will see what each one does. Obviously, Verdes Equo cannot make decisions for each of the people, we take it as a political organization”, one of the regional spokespersons of the party, Paco Vaquero, limited himself to pointing out.
Regarding Delgado's absence at the press conference, which was offered at the doors of the City Council, they justified it by stating that only the two co-spokespersons of Equo Verdes Canarias have appeared. “It coincides that Esther is a councilor, but she is here as a co-spokesperson”, her colleague pointed out.
However, their answers have shown the distance that exists with this councilor. “In principle it has been communicated. I had a conversation yesterday, just in case the email hadn't reached him”, Vaquero pointed out, thus confirming that they notified him of the decision by email and that he did not respond, so he ended up contacting him by phone.
As for Esther Gómez, she has not clarified anything about her colleague's position, despite the fact that both are councilors in Arrecife and share a group.
“We are in August and things are more distracted. We will surely talk about it, for sure, because there is no other option”, added Paco Vaquero. “I have no doubt that the information will reach each one in due time, but in this act the information corresponds to us, it is a matter of making clear what the positions are”, he insisted.
“A spokesperson who does not belong to Equo or Podemos manages the accounts”
Regarding the accounts of the municipal group, they have revealed that they have been requesting them for some time “through various channels”, but they have not been able to “have access”, despite the fact that two of the three councilors of the group belong to Equo.
In this regard, they have explained that Leticia Padilla manages them. “It is a somewhat complex situation. There is a spokesperson for the group who manages the accounts, but she does not belong to Podemos or Equo, therefore we do not have access”, said Esther Gómez.
As for Podemos, which was represented in that group by Padilla herself -until she left the purple formation-, they have pointed out that that party “also does not have access” to information on how the public funds received by the group are managed.
“We want to anticipate a possible request for documentation, since imagine that the Court of Accounts asks us for it and they are signed by a person who does not belong to the political group”, Gómez specified.
Both have pointed out that it is not that they have any “suspicion” about the use that is being given to that money, but they have insisted that “it is an administrative issue and that it had to be done”.
In addition, they have insisted that the Verdes Equo alliance was signed in its day with Podemos. In fact, Lanzarote en Pie did not exist then as a party, and it was only the name given to the confluence. Padilla officially registered it as a party a few months ago, some time after leaving the purple formation.
