The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands continues its commitment to promote electric mobility in the islands, organizing informative meetings with cooperatives, associations and companies in the taxi sector, in the municipalities that must implement Low Emission Zones. All this, with the aim of bringing these aids closer to the sector, published on April 1, for "a value of 15 million euros", charged to Next Generation funds and managed by the Chambers of Commerce of the Canary Islands.

The general director of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alberto Hernández Suárez, accompanied by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the councilor of Transport and Mobility, Mario González Altube, highlighted in this meeting with the taxi sector in the capital of Lanzarote its importance to "continue promoting sustainable mobility in the Canary Islands" always hand in hand "with all the agents involved in the sector, being of course by their side, so that they feel accompanied throughout the process".

Hernández explained that technical experts from the Ministry, specialized in Next Generation funds, representatives of the Green Offices of the Canary Islands and the Chambers of Commerce, present at the meeting, "are put at the service of all interested parties to guide and advise on the financing opportunities available from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy, and the requirements to access the aid." In addition, he wanted to make a special mention and thanks to the city council and the Auto-Taxi and Autoturismo Cooperative Society of Lanzarote and San Marcial for managing and organizing this meeting in the municipality.

The general director also commented on the choice of Arrecife as the venue for one of these talks, arguing that "we have chosen this municipality because it is one of those that must implement Low Emission Zones." A round of meetings that will be held in all the municipalities of the Canary Islands with this categorization, since "they are areas that must especially promote a change of model towards a more sustainable future and for which the Government of the Canary Islands is responsible for coordinating its implementation".

Likewise, Suárez stressed that "both he and the area councilor, Mariano H. Zapata, "have already participated in other informative talks held in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and San Cristóbal de La Laguna" in which "we have talked with self-employed taxi drivers and cooperatives to encourage them to join this subsidy".

In addition, the general director recalled that this initiative goes "in the path of other similar cooperation actions already carried out", since "we have also held meetings prior to its presentation with the Taxi Federation of the Canary Islands and the Confederation of Taxi Drivers of the Canary Islands", as well as also "with the automotive employers and with the installers of electric chargers, to know their concerns and proposals when preparing the bases that we finally presented on April 1".

Finally, Suárez wanted to remember that these aids, destined to the "promotion of electric or hybrid vehicles, with 12 million euros", and to the "installation of new charging points, with 3 million euros", are being managed by the Chambers of Commerce in each of the islands, since "they are an invaluable support for companies and self-employed and is allowing us to be more agile when managing Next Generation funds".

For his part, the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, said that Arrecife "is transforming, and there are a series of works underway aimed at citizen mobility." The first mayor recalled that "the Municipal Government group that leads is committed to public transport." For this, "the Municipal Urban Bus Service is being strengthened, which will soon incorporate new buses, which will be powered by electric energy." And also, from the city council is supported with "a line of economic aid for the modernization and improvement of taxis." Likewise, he recalled that in this 2024 will enter into "service a public system of electric bicycles for mobility in Arrecife."
