Echedey Eugenio announced his intention to run for Mayor of Arrecife for Coalición Canaria in the municipal elections of May 2027 at a get-together held this Friday by CC in the Lanzarote capital, with the attendance of around 200 members and supporters of the Canarian nationalist party.
“In many places they have asked me if I was going to lead the Coalición Canaria list for the Arrecife City Council and in all of them I replied that, if so, the first person I would have to tell would be you, the Coalición Canaria family, those who make all of us who are part of this project have the enthusiasm to continue making Arrecife and the Canary Islands the land we are proud to have been born in, or chosen to live in, here.”
The local secretary of CC Arrecife thus summarized his intention to present his candidacy for Mayor of the Lanzarote capital in the process that CC will open for the May 2027 elections, at a meeting that marked the start of “this new period” for the Canarian nationalist party under the slogan ‘Contigo una vez más’ (With you once again), “because with you, with all of you, we are going to achieve that in the next term the Mayor’s office of Arrecife will be from Coalición Canaria,” he stressed.
“Respect for internal procedures”
The deputy mayor of Arrecife made clear his “respect for internal procedures and for the decisions that the members must make in the assemblies of Coalición Canaria” in said process: “I am a party person, I was born in Coalición Canaria and I know that in any case my decision will be backed by the trust of teamwork.”
In this regard, Echedey Eugenio alluded to the “project of transformation of Arrecife” carried out by the group of councilors from Coalición Canaria who accompany him in the government of the Lanzarote capital: Jacobo Lemes, Abigail González, Maite Corujo, Cata Suárez, Maciot Cabrera and Rosmen Quevedo, “each one working every day in their areas to elevate Arrecife to the category that our city must have as the third most important in the Canary Islands.”
Thus he alluded to the imminent approval of the Supplementary Plan that will regulate the urban planning of Arrecife, to the efforts being made by the City Council to transform it into a clean city, to social and inclusive policies designed for families, or to the attention paid to the payment of invoices for the numerous small and medium-sized enterprises that act as suppliers to meet the city's needs.
He also recalled that an emblematic cultural space such as the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz, "until a few years ago closed, has now become a highly sought-after place" or that the schools in Arrecife, "unlike what also happened a few years ago, are starting the school year clean, whitewashed, and tidy."
"Arrecife was a difficult city even to bury our relatives because there were no niches" - he recalled - "and now there are." We have also made animal welfare a priority, we have achieved almost 10 out of 10 in excellence in terms of transparency of our management, and we are working on the development of a heritage catalog for the city, something that no one has been able to produce," he added.
Attention to the neighborhoods
The streamlining of license granting by the Technical Office, "when before it took 24 months to grant them, now they are granted in five," participatory policies aimed at the elderly and young people, or "the care and concern for meeting the needs of each and every one of the neighborhoods in our city" were other examples given by Echedey Eugenio regarding the management capacity shown by the team of councilors from Coalición Canaria in the Arrecife City Council.
"If, as Councilor for Festivals, we have the best festivals that Arrecife has ever had; if I were mayor, we would have the best possible city," Echedey Eugenio remarked in his speech, in which he reaffirmed his intention to run for the assembly to elect the candidate for Mayor of the city on behalf of Coalición Canaria, "as I have always done, thinking of the good of Arrecife and teamwork."
All of this “despite the bad intentions of some, who having more than demonstrated their inability to manage this city when they were in charge of the City Council, do everything possible to make us suffer because they think that is their only way to defeat us. Because they know that in terms of willingness to work, effort, and management capacity, and being backed as we are by our colleagues from Coalición Canaria in the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands, they will never be able to surpass us,” he remarked.
Gratitude
Echedey Eugenio also acknowledged having gone through “difficult moments in which I even thought about throwing in the towel,” for which he expressed his “gratitude to all those who have accompanied and supported me” in those circumstances. In this regard, he pointed out that “not everything will have been done perfectly, but it will not have been for lack of dedication and willingness,” and stressed that “despite the wear and tear, I maintain the enthusiasm and the desire to be the mayor of this wonderful city.”
“As our colleague Félix Hormiga used to say, only in the dictionary does success come before work. And I tell you that, no matter how many stumbles and tripping hazards they put in our way, we are not going to stop working. I maintain intact the enthusiasm and the desire for us to finally give our city the place it deserves. Your gestures of affection and support are what push us every day to keep rowing together to achieve it,” he concluded.
