The Secretary General of the PSOE of Lanzarote and Member of Congress, María Dolores Corujo, has denounced the "serious consequences" that the definitive loss of the administrative concession for the fishing area of the Port of Arrecife will have for the island, after the Port Authority of Las Palmas has dismissed the allegations presented by the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
Corujo was blunt in pointing out that this situation "is a direct consequence of the negligence of the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, who let the legal deadline for the renewal of the concession expire by submitting the documentation late." "We are not facing a minor procedure or an administrative error without consequences. Lanzarote has lost a strategic concession title due to unacceptable lack of diligence," he stated
The expiration of the concession now forces the island to start the entire procedure from scratch: a new application, a new economic valuation according to current parameters, and more demanding processing conditions. “That translates into more time, more uncertainty, and, above all, more cost for Lanzarote,” warned Corujo.
The socialist leader explained that, furthermore, **the economic advantages associated with the previous concession are lost**, such as bonuses linked to investments, works, or improvements made during its validity. "Everything that has been advanced disappears. We return to square one, but in a more expensive context and with less room to maneuver to defend the island's interests," she stressed
While a new concession is being processed, the Port Authority will directly manage the space, including the collection of fees, which introduces a scenario of greater insecurity for uses and activities linked to the fishing sector. "It adds uncertainty to a sector that already needs stability and planning, not improvisation or mistakes," he pointed out.
For Corujo, this episode "is another example of the lack of rigor in the management of the current island government." "The loss of the fishing concession is not an accident or an administrative anecdote. It is an institutional irresponsibility with clear economic consequences that delays the development of a key space for Lanzarote," he concluded
