La Voz de Lanzarote has received several complaints about the Arrecife Local Police job openings. Several candidates have contacted this media outlet to ensure that there are more than "40 claims" filed with the Arrecife City Council for considering "irregular" some aspects of this call. However, the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, has insisted that only "eleven" complaints have been registered, which he hopes will be resolved as soon as possible. In addition, he has assured that the court that must select this personnel is complying "strictly with the law."

However, there are many aspects that several candidates have denounced, who have already been excluded from this call that has not yet ended, a large part of them for not having passed the physical tests. They are even studying the possibility of taking legal action, if the mayor does not positively resolve their complaints. According to these people, who prefer not to reveal their names so as not to "suffer consequences", the problems began from the moment they submitted the necessary documentation to access these tests.

"Some of those who are still selected did not even submit all the documentation within the established period. According to the law, if this documentation is not submitted, that person should be excluded from the call", indicated one of these candidates, who will no longer be able to access one of the 15 places for the Arrecife Local Police.

The same thing also happened, according to their version, with the medical certificate, a document that all candidates had to have before starting any test. "There were many people who arrived at the physical tests, which were held on May 3, without a medical certificate and submitted it the next day. It is surprising that some were not allowed to submit this certificate on the 3rd at noon, but others who are still in the call were allowed to submit it the next day," said another candidate.

A camera "without battery"

And the problems don't end here. According to these complainants, in the physical tests "the most normal thing" is for the candidates to record each other. In this way, when claiming they have images to resolve their complaint. "In this case we did not record each other, because they told us that they were going to record us all with a camera. In my case, I did more pull-ups than they wrote down and when asking for a review of the images, they realized that they had only recorded 25 minutes because they had run out of battery," said one of those affected.

"We will ask the call court to show us the images, what they have, and if not we will request it from the judge. There are about eleven people affected by this issue," they said.

They also pointed out that there were also problems with the size of some people, who according to the law must meet certain requirements and if not they should be excluded from the call. "30 people were told that they were already suspended due to their build. However, they complained and everyone ended up being admitted," they denounced.

Another of the "irregular" issues that the candidates who have filed claims with the Arrecife City Council have found is that the name of one of the members of the personnel selection court "does not appear in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas". "Their data must be in the call for public places to prevent them from being related to any of the candidates," they stressed.

Therefore, a part of the 300 candidates for the police positions in Arrecife considers that "things are being done badly". "This is going to end in a dispute and before the mayor should stop it and start the call again," they demanded.

The mayor's version

However, the mayor's version, Cándido Reguera, is very different from that of this part of the candidates. Thus, according to Reguera, the Arrecife City Council "has only received eleven claims", which he hopes to resolve "before the new tests take place", which for the moment have no date.

In addition, he has defended the selection board for this public personnel and has insisted that "it is composed of technicians, City Council personnel and even the Canary Islands Autonomous Community". "I am sure that the court is doing its job correctly," he stressed this Tuesday on Radio Lanzarote.

"The bases are going to be strictly complied with and whoever does not comply with them will not be able to pass. That has to be clear. I understand that everyone intends to defend their actions, but there are 15 places for 300 people," said the mayor.
