The National Political Council (CPN) of Coalición Canaria unanimously proclaimed Fernando Clavijo as the nationalist party's candidate for the Presidency of the Canary Islands in the autonomous elections of May 2027.
Clavijo thanked the organization for its trust and called for facing the coming months with "unity, commitment, and the defense of the Canary Islands above any party affiliation and regardless of the political scenario that opens up in the State."
"Above our party affiliations is the Canary Islands, wherever we are. We demonstrated this from the opposition and we are demonstrating it now from the Government," stated the nationalist candidate for the Presidency.
The nationalist leader vindicated the strength of a project built "from the bottom up," from the neighborhoods, municipalities, and islands. "The secret of Coalición Canaria is that there is a team of men and women who put the interests of their island and the Canary Islands before their own."
"While others fight, we talk about the Canary Islands"
Given the state's political uncertainty, Clavijo assured that Coalición Canaria will maintain its priorities intact. "If there are early elections, let them come. While others fight, we talk about the Canary Islands. It hurts us and we feel the Canary Islands."
The candidate defended the nationalists' useful policy for negotiating and achieving results for the islands and pointed to work on migration, the Canary Islands Decree, regional financing, or the position taken this week regarding housing decrees as examples.
Clavijo identified housing, the demographic challenge, the next European financial framework, the development of the Canary Islands Decree, and reflection on the islands' development model among the main challenges.
"We are going to face them as always: with honesty, unity, transparency, and commitment. Not out of fear, but out of our convictions and defending our identity and our Canarian-ness," he stated.
Unity as a strength
The unity and defense of the Canary Islands also focused the speeches of the territorial and organic representatives. The national organization secretary, David Toledo, claimed the "pride" of a membership and a party "close to the land" that will always be involved in policies that benefit the Canary Islands.
The island secretary of Gran Canaria, Pablo Rodríguez, highlighted that today Coalición Canaria is "a stronger and more united party than ever" and called to take advantage of the historic opportunity to advance in the unity of Canarian nationalism.
The president of AHI, Javier Armas, conveyed his "total and absolute" support for Clavijo and defended the unity of the eight islands: "We feel like children of an island, but Canarians above all else."
For his part, the island secretary of Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera, pointed out that the consensus reached is not easy in any political organization and defended unity as "our main strength."
Meanwhile, the island secretary of La Gomera, Víctor Chinea, recalled that for Coalición Canaria "Canary Islands has always come first" and appealed to maintain that commitment from all islands.
The island secretary of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, highlighted Clavijo's ability to integrate the different island realities "from humility, respect, and honesty."
From Venezuela, Johny Matías, president of CC Venezuela, conveyed the support of the organizations from Venezuela, Argentina, and Uruguay and claimed the defense of Canarians "wherever they may be," in addition to remembering Isabela Jara, a colleague who died in the double earthquake registered on June 24 in Venezuela.
The island secretary of La Palma, Nieves Lady Barreto, valued the unity achieved by the organization and its ability to jointly face the most difficult challenges in the Canary Islands.
The island secretary of Tenerife, Francisco Linares, called to reinforce work in the streets and to make decisions about the future of the islands by putting "Canary Islands above anything else."
Representing Jóvenes Nacionalistas de Canarias, Raquel Castro, defended advancing in nationalist unity and stressed that Clavijo "is not alone, he has eight islands behind him and a youth organization that firmly believes he is the best president for the Canary Islands."
"This is about the Canary Islands"
Clavijo closed his speech with a special acknowledgment to Gran Canaria and the work done to advance the unity of nationalism, expressly thanking the work of Pablo Rodríguez.
“The more united nationalism is, the more future this land will have,” he affirmed.
The candidate called to face the coming months with unity, work, and “feet on the street” and reiterated that Coalición Canaria will maintain its own agenda regardless of state uncertainty.
“Whatever happens in Madrid, we know what we have to do. Neither one nor the other will break us, because those who command us are not those from outside, they are our neighbors, the Canarians,” he concluded.
