The awarding of the ground staff service of Canary Islands airports to different operators continues to generate controversy. On this occasion, Coalición Canaria has demanded the appearance before the Senate Development Commission of the general director of AENA. The nationalists hope that this appearance will explain what the handling awarding process has been and what criteria AENA has used to grant this service.
The members of this political formation have demanded this information because this measure will mean the disappearance of Iberia's ground service at the airports of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma. This disappearance means that several hundred workers will be affected and transferred to the staff of the new operators, as established by the current labor agreement in this sector.
Therefore, Coalición Canaria will demand that the general director of AENA reveal the keys to the awarding process and the offers presented by the different companies, since according to this formation, this decision can still be appealed until September 15.
Meanwhile, the affected workers are studying the measures they will apply if this award materializes. For now, the employees of the Fuerteventura airport have already called two days of strike in September.
