"The intention of the gatherings in front of the PP's doors is to remind them that we are in an emergency situation, that the victims are in great need of a law that protects and shields them from the excesses of the banks that want to collect the debt with lives." This is how Cristina Cividanes, a member of the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages in Lanzarote (PAH), who on Tuesday carried out a protest in front of the PP headquarters on the island, which was repeated throughout Spain, has spoken. "Ordinary citizens who see how the bank crushes us continuously, feel the PP as the Caesar in the Roman games: if he raises his thumb he saves us, if he lowers it he kills us. They must accept this responsibility," she demanded.

Cividanes has assured that the "only way" that those affected have to communicate with the PP "is face to face", so that this party "understands the seriousness of what it is going to vote on in Congress". "It seems that the PP is bothered by the displays of pain that remind them that our lives are in their hands, that it is their responsibility to resolve it," she insisted. In this sense, she recalled that with these protests they intend to modify the PP's position and get it to approve without modifications the popular legislative initiative, promoted by the PAH, which demands that the general and retroactive payment in kind be approved.

For this reason, the PAH in Lanzarote also carried out its first escrache on the island, to the PP deputy Francisco Cabrera, so that he would understand "the seriousness of the decision" that this party is going to take and so that he would "vote in conscience". "They have party rules and they penalize them with 600 euros if they do not vote in accordance with their party. 600 euros compared to all the lives that are at stake is a very small fine," she insisted.

"We told Francisco Cabrera that in order for him to understand what was happening, he had to know us personally, that he should attend our assemblies. We offered him the 24-hour telephone line for those affected so that he could take the pulse, understand the seriousness of the psychological and emotional situation in which those affected arrive at the PAH," she said, while pointing out that they have not demonstrated in front of any PSOE house, since on the island "there is no socialist deputy who is going to vote in Congress."

"We are talking about life and death"

Precisely because of this contact, Cristina Cividanes has defended the escraches, although she has assured that she rejects violence because "none is good". "That they insult you is a type of violence, there is no doubt. That they throw you out of your house, you, your family, your children, leaving you without a roof, with a debt for life, ruining your future and that of your children forever, is another type of violence and there is no doubt which of the two is more serious. There is no doubt who has the responsibility to change this situation. It is them, the PP. We are talking about life and death," this woman insisted.

The member of this platform considers "a moral obligation, a matter of life or death" to approve the popular legislative initiative, which "has been supported by 50 jurists". "The PP has to be responsible. They charge as qualified personnel and each of their words cost us very dearly and they fail continuously. I know that it is difficult for them to accept their responsibility and the consequences of their decision," she stated.

"The judge's order has been a breath of fresh air"

Cristina Cividanes has also positively valued [the order of the judge of the Court of First Instance Number 4 of Arrecife, Juan José Cobo Plana,->76147] that not only annulled a mortgage foreclosure for considering the default interest "abusive and usurious", but also ordered the nullity of the mortgage that guarantees it and suspended the mortgage procedure. "It has been a joy, very hopeful. It was needed. It has been a breath of fresh air. The order comes to give the reason to the citizens, who are victims of a perverse system. It was necessary for a judge with independence to pronounce himself. We are very proud of this judge," she pointed out from the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages.

The platform meets every Friday at 3:00 p.m. in a premises on Ginés de Castro Street, number 10, on the second floor, in Arrecife. "We have to prevent the person from falling into a spiral of pain. I am still recovering from that great stress that a eviction entails. We want to avoid it in Lanzarote, we want those who have difficulties paying to go to the platform, that we will help and advise them," she indicated.

And Cividanes has assured that the people who come to the platform have "a serious psychological situation". "I have a very fresh memory of my absence with respect to my children. You are in a pain that kidnaps you, it is a death sentence. Those children spend a period of total absence from their parents, who are morally kidnapped. We have to prevent it," this affected woman defended.
