The only deputy from Coalición Canaria in Congress, Cristina Valido, will vote this Friday in favor of the validation of the decree-law that sets limits on the eviction of people in vulnerable situations, among other measures, while she will reject the one related to the automatic renewal of rentals.

The Organization Secretary of CC, David Toledo, has announced the voting intention on the two housing decrees after the meeting held by the island secretaries of his party.

He explained that although in principle both decrees were going to be rejected because they do not address the island's uniqueness, the Spanish Government has accepted the conditions imposed by CC, such as the decree being processed as a bill "so that it is not a blank check and can be amended".

Another of CC's conditions that will be transformed into an amendment when processed as a bill is that administrative silence will be positive in construction permit authorizations after six months "because housing is not solved if there are no more houses on the market," Toledo stated.

In addition to including the uniqueness of the Canary Islands in its content, another of CC's amendments will be that this regulation protects vulnerable individuals and provides legal guarantees to tenants and owners.

Toledo assured that Pedro Sánchez's Government has guaranteed that they will accept the limitation on the purchase of homes for foreign citizens for the Canary Islands, which is, said the CC leader, "the cornerstone of what the Archipelago needs."

For CC, the second decree is "a real disaster"

Regarding the second decree, Toledo stated that he is completely against it because it leaves owners and tenants unprotected, it is "a real disaster," it will cause legal uncertainty, and it will lead to thousands of apartments being withdrawn from the market.

"You cannot govern based on improvisation," Toledo said.

The president of the Canary Islands and general secretary of CC, Fernando Clavijo, also commented on the decrees in Fuerteventura, stating that a problem as serious as housing "cannot be solved in 48 hours."

Clavijo considered that issues like this require broad political consensus, in which the autonomous communities, which manage these competencies, can also participate.

However, he has pointed out that his party has taken a position "but of course we do not believe that it is the appropriate legislative mechanism or legal mechanism because we have very recent examples of issues that have been addressed from that perspective and have generated more problems than solutions".

Clavijo has pointed out that they will take care of vulnerable people but also of the small owner "who has worked all his life and has saved to be able to now supplement a pension which in the Canary Islands are among the lowest in all of Spain and who also need that protection from the administrations."
