The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, regrets “the deception” of the Tías City Council with the “supposed measures” put in place to control street drinking and increase security in the affected areas, and states that “the concern and commitment acquired by the mayor and his government group, barely lasted a weekend.”
“It is incredible how they are deceiving the entire population and the lack of responsibility of a government that is incapable of complying with what was approved by the plenary session,” emphasizes the councilor, who stresses that the only measures that have been taken to date, “coincided casually with the weekend of the Ocean Lava celebration between October 22 and 23, because they used the Civil Guard agents who were on the island for the event.”
Vizcaíno assures that a weekend “in which several patrols of the Local Police and the Civil Guard could be seen patrolling the area” was followed by another “with hardly any troops.” “This meant the return of fights and problems in El Varadero and the dirt in the nearby streets, especially in the El Poril area, which dawned full of urine,” says the councilor.
According to the Canarian Coalition, the situation “worsens every weekend,” and they add that the neighbors "no longer know what to do so that the municipal authorities urgently apply whatever measures are necessary, so as not to have to continue suffering the consequences of those who do not know the meaning of the word civility.”
“What happened this weekend has been a real mess,” denounces Vizcaíno, who assures that “we have found sidewalks and terraces full of blood and the burning of several containers in Teide, Los Afrechos and El Toscón streets. Fires that were extinguished in some cases by the neighbors themselves or by the owners of nearby establishments, using buckets of water, until the police arrived.”
The nationalist spokesperson asks for “responsibility from the municipal government” and recalls that the decisions that are approved in the plenary sessions “are not to comply with the procedure for two days and that's it.”
“Determination is needed, to reinforce security every weekend without exception and a real cleaning and disinfection campaign in the affected areas,” Vizcaíno concludes.
