Coalición Canaria Lanzarote has joined the condolences for the new tragedy that has taken place on the coast of Órzola after a boat capsized on Thursday night. "If immigration is already a dramatic issue, the loss of human lives makes everything more tragic. The people who use this route do so because they seek to improve their living conditions," said the island secretary, Migdalia Machín, who stresses that "unfortunately, the arrival of people will not stop because it is a structural phenomenon of our Archipelago."
However, at the same time she has lashed out at the PSOE, blaming them for this situation. "How many more dramatic situations will we have to live through for the island and Canarian PSOE to open their eyes, stop paying homage to Pedro Sánchez and force him to assume his powers in immigration once and for all?" asks Machín, who says that "as long as we remain silenced by those who have the obligation to demand, we will not find a way out and many more people will continue to perish in our waters."
For CC, "the migration policy marked by the European Union based on a criterion of containment of migrants is a failure that is repeated again and again", and "an erroneous policy that is applied in the Canary Islands and Lanzarote without either the autonomous Government or the Island Council daring to raise their voices".
For his part, the Secretary of Organization of CC Lanzarote, Echedey Eugenio, recalls that "not even a month ago, in the face of the flood of boats arriving in a single weekend to the coasts of Lanzarote (six in less than 48 hours with 190 people on board), the nationalists demanded that the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the president of the Canarian Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, put aside political colors, position themselves as Canarian leaders that they are and stop bowing to the interests of a Government that does little or nothing for the Canary Islands."
"It was not the first time we did it nor will it be the last time we do it, because we only ask that action be taken in our territory with the same speed, involvement and firmness that is applied in other areas of the State and that an urgent response be given to the situation, which is causing more and more deaths every day," emphasizes Eugenio.
"The PSOE is to blame but the Lanzarote PP is also to blame, as it is allowing the socialists to handle the pact they maintain in the Cabildo and in Arrecife as they please, while in Madrid, the Popular Party demands urgent solutions in this matter."
