The Coalition Canaria Group in the Yaiza City Council, through its spokesperson Emilio Machín, has publicly denounced "the negligence, apathy and lack of commitment of the municipal government group", headed by its mayor, after learning of the rating obtained in the latest Transparency Index of the Canary Islands (ITCanarias).
According to the report recently issued by the Transparency Commissioner, the Yaiza City Council has obtained a score of 4.85, which represents a notable decrease compared to the previous evaluation, in which the municipality reached 7.75.
For Emilio Machín, this result is “a clear sign of the lack of responsibility of the current government group, which not only fails to comply with its legal obligations in terms of transparency, but also turns its back on the residents of Yaiza, depriving them of a fundamental right such as access to public information.”
The spokesperson for Coalición Canaria considers it “unacceptable that a municipality like Yaiza, with the resources and tools at its disposal, regresses in this way in institutional transparency.” Machín adds that “the mayor cannot look the other way or hide behind excuses: it is his duty to guarantee that municipal management is clear, accessible and open to citizens.”
Coalición Canaria in Yaiza recalls that "transparency is not an aesthetic or secondary issue, but a legal obligation and an essential pillar of democracy." “Residents have the right to know how public money is spent, how resources are managed, and what decisions are made from the City Council. And that right is being violated today,” concludes Machín.
The nationalist group demands that the government group "take urgent measures to reverse this situation, update the transparency portal and firmly commit to a more open and participatory public management."
