The Canary Coalition Group in the San Bartolomé City Council has denounced that "the neglect and lack of interest and commitment of the socialist mayor, Alexis Tejera, and his Government Group", have opened "a new gap in the municipal economy", by not being able to celebrate the fourteenth edition of the Christmas pastry market. "What the mayor will not say is that it will not be precisely because of Covid, but because the City Council has been unable to request the pertinent health and safety permits and authorizations in time," the party states.

“With how much it is costing to return to normality, with how difficult it is to move the economy, they will have the courage to announce that Public Health does not authorize the celebration of a market that has already had thirteen editions, so its cancellation is proceeding. What they will not say is that Public Health requires the request for the activity fifteen calendar days in advance and the City Council has submitted it outside this period,” explains the CC spokesperson in the Consistory, David Rocío.

"Facts like this", emphasizes the nationalist councilor, "demonstrate disastrous management by a government that works aimlessly and that cares little about the commercial and artisanal sector of the municipality."

“These are difficult times, times to pull together and worry and not close our eyes to problems. For this reason, we ask the mayor and his team to be serious and responsible in management and to seek a solution to continue with the ‘San Bartolomé shopping’ event, given that it had centralized activities and hopes placed on this Christmas market,” Rocío emphasizes.

For the Canary Coalition, "commerce in San Bartolomé and, therefore, employment, must be a priority." In this regard, they recall that since the beginning of the pandemic they have presented more than fifteen initiatives aimed at alleviating the economic crisis situation suffered by many residents, including the proposal for granting aid for rent and the self-employed, or the cancellation of garbage receipts during the 2020 financial year, among others.

“We feared the abandonment of commerce by the City Council. They cannot wash their hands in this way, they cannot abandon such an employment niche,” asserts the nationalist spokesperson, who insists that “everything possible must be done to not lose the line of work carried out by CC for so many years. If not, many customers will be lost and our commercial position only due to an attitude of neglect and inaction by this socialist government group.”

The councilor considers it "regrettable that other municipalities open their Christmas, artisan or other markets and thus boost their commercial areas, while San Bartolomé remains stagnant." That is why he demands that the mayor and his group “publicly apologize for having issued the market call out of time, causing people to have wasted their time due to their mismanagement.”
