Coalición Canaria on Sunday lamented the statements made by the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, during his visit to Lanzarote, in which—according to the national secretary of Organization, David Toledo—he once again used the migratory phenomenon "as a political weapon to fuel fear and confrontation."

Abascal came to Lanzarote looking for an invasion and found a peaceful island,” Toledo stated, who reproached the far-right leader for “confusing the Canary Islands with the Congress of Deputies.” “You don't come here to shout or impose, but to listen and understand how Canarians are: a peaceful people, who defend themselves and do not need passing hawks,” he added.

The nationalist leader stressed that "the Canary Islands do not need anyone from outside to come and explain what is happening in their land," recalling that the Archipelago "has always demonstrated its ability to manage challenges with dialogue, empathy, and serenity, far from the noise and hate speech that Vox represents."

In this vein, Toledo considered that Abascal's words "not only offend the people of the Canary Islands, but also demonstrate that the Canary Islands are too big for such a small politician." "If someone wants to do politics here, the first thing they have to learn is to understand us and respect our values," he added.

The Canarian Coalition concluded that the Vox leader's visit "has not contributed anything to the debate on the migratory situation" and has only served to "turn a humanitarian issue into a political spectacle." "The Canary Islands need solutions, not inflammatory speeches or false alarms. And those who want to contribute must do so with respect, not with insults or fears," Toledo concluded.
