The island secretary of Welfare of Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote, the nurse Yone Caraballo, has considered "illogical" and "lacking objectivity" the decision of the Canary Islands Government to locate the medicalized helicopter in Fuerteventura.
"The number of daily transfers, the number of health cards, the population density, the geographical situation of Lanzarote located halfway between La Graciosa and Fuerteventura, and the fact that the latter island currently has a rescue emergency helicopter, make Lanzarote the best option to establish the permanent base, efficiently and effectively covering this public service," says the secretary of Welfare of NC, who despite the criticism for the location, has congratulated the regional Executive for the announcement of installing a helicopter for the eastern islands.
Caraballo does not understand what criteria the president of the Canary Islands Government has followed to make such a decision, and hopes that "he has not been guided by political interests". "The deputies of the PSOE and CC of Fuerteventura have claimed this service for their island in the Parliament of the Canary Islands," explains the nurse, who sees that "the pressure, coordination and work of the Majorero deputies is much higher than those of Lanzarote."
"Our eight deputies have said nothing, neither before nor after, about a citizen demand that has more than 40,000 signatures in favor." I do not explain what they do and whom they represent," criticizes Yone Caraballo.
NC Lanzarote announces that it will request "all the pertinent technical information that supports the decision to choose Fuerteventura as a permanent base", requiring the appearance in Lanzarote of the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, so that "he gives the opportune explanations to the society of Lanzarote."
From NC they maintain that this announcement comes after "an intense claim initiated in 2018 by Caraballo himself", managing to integrate into the public agenda "the need to have a medicalized helicopter that covers the route of transfers to the reference hospitals of Gran Canaria, Dr. Negrín and Complejo Hospitalario Insular – Materno Infantil". In addition, the party points out that this demand "was welcomed by the health groups of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and by civil society as a whole."
Nueva Canarias recalls that the formation "has positioned itself in different parliamentary proposals in favor of the acquisition of the medicalized helicopter that covers the eastern islands", adding the possibility of "a dual base in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura as an intermediate decision."
"It is not an insularist or selfish position; but to manage public services effectively and attending to objective reality. It is, in short, to gain health response time and increase the chances of life of the Graciosa, Lanzarote and Majorera population," says Caraballo.
