All sales channels of airlines and shipping companies, as well as the different reservation operators, must allow, from November 1, the telematic consultation of the status of resident in the Canary Islands, which grants the right to receive a subsidy on the amount of the transport ticket.

In this way, all users will be able to access the telematic accreditation of residence, which will allow them to travel with their subsidized ticket without the need to carry with them the accreditation certificate of registration (travel certificate), issued by the town hall of the municipality where they reside, as confirmed by the Ministry of Development through a statement.

However, this measure does not apply to several "exceptional" cases in which the verification of residence is not positive, such as minors under 14 years of age who do not have a DNI, residents who have recently registered and those who have incorrectly entered the DNI data (for example, the name) in the system.

According to the new model designed by the Ministry of Development, in the event of possible technical failures of the system itself, there is a contingency solution with which resident passengers who have had a previous positive validation in the previous six months can continue to be validated.

The consultation of the residence will be carried out through the SARA automatic system, developed by the Ministry of Development, and to which the different airlines and shipping companies, as well as their respective ticket reservation systems, have been progressively integrated. With the complete development of this system, "a further step is taken to improve the efficiency of the current transport subsidy system, reconciling the reduction of obligations for the passenger with the improvement of control procedures", according to this Ministry.

Residents in the Canary Islands had to start traveling with this certificate on September 1, 2012, in a measure that was very controversial in the Canary Islands. The document was mandatory from that day to be able to get on a plane to a ship if you wanted to have the right to a 50 percent discount on the price of the ticket.
