The Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote reminds the population of the rules to follow and the recommendations for organizing bonfires on the occasion of the San Juan Bautista festivities, which are celebrated on June 23.
The president of the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote, Marcos Bergaz, points out that the main reason for these rules and recommendations is "to allow everyone to celebrate these festivities in the safest way possible."
The Corporation recalls that, first of all, "they must go to their city council to request authorization to light a bonfire", and "health protection measures" must be respected. In addition, special care must be taken "not to use hydroalcoholic gel on your hands", as it is flammable.
It is also advisable to choose a "safe area, without nearby buildings and with little traffic to place the bonfire." Likewise, "the presence of cars, power lines, trees, etc." should be avoided and the area should be cleaned beforehand, eliminating any material that could spread the fire. For greater security, it is advisable to move six meters away for each meter stacked in the bonfire.
From the Cabildo de Lanzarote they emphasize that it is important to avoid the use of light materials to burn in the bonfire, as they could easily come off and cause damage. Likewise, the bonfire must be watched at all times and extinguishing means must be at hand.
Before leaving, it is important to ensure that the bonfire is completely extinguished and clean the area of any residue. Finally, in case of emergency, call 112 or 080.
