The Autonomous Board of Directors of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands unanimously elected Australia Navarro this Thursday as the new autonomous president, thus confirming her designation after the resignation of Asier Antona, who came to office after being elected in a Congress and left it at the end of last July, amid rumors about the possibility that the national leadership of the party would impose a management team on the islands.
Finally, Antona was appointed senator by the Autonomous Community and that led him to resign as a regional parliamentarian and also to leave the presidency of the party in the Canary Islands, which has now formally remained in the hands of Australia Navarro.
The meeting of the Board of Directors where this decision has been approved has been chaired by the national general secretary of the party, Teodoro García Egea, who during the negotiation of the post-election pacts was sent to the islands by Pablo Casado and disauthorized the management that Antona was carrying out.
"The PP is going to play a key role in the archipelago"
During her speech, Australia Navarro stated that "the Popular Party is consolidating a new Autonomous Presidency today, in a period in which nothing will distract us from our responsibility, because the PP is more necessary than ever in the Islands."
In this sense, the new leader of the PP of the Canary Islands assured that her party "is going to play a key role in the entire Archipelago during the coming months, in the face of the threat that the current Government of the Canary Islands represents for the employment and well-being of the Canarians."
"The PP will embody in the Canary Islands the dam of contention against four parties of the left and extreme left that ? in Navarro's opinion ? intend to articulate an authentic fiscal confiscation of families."
Gratitude to Antona
Australia Navarro, who thanked "the great work done" by her predecessor in office, Asier Antona ? present at the Board of Directors ?, stressed that "the Canary Islands needs a project and a party that is completely alternative to the Government of socialists, populists and left-wing nationalists, and that is the role that we are going to embody: to stop the nonsense that is coming."
"This Government has an unprecedented fundraising zeal ? assured the president of the PP ?, with the sole objective of filling the public coffers to spend as they please, and with councilors from four parties who compete with each other to see who spends the most, at the expense of all Canarians."
For the leader of the popular, "with the government of Torres, and just when the economic and labor outlook begins to be bleak, the fiscal abuse and the party of spending and waste return, which we all saw before the crisis."
"The Popular Party is a useful party, and we will be the guarantee of counterbalance against a populist left-wing government," she concluded.
