The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, presented the tourist destination of Puerto del Carmen this Thursday at the stand of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid (Fitur). Cruz Saavedra highlighted the celebration this year of the 60th anniversary of Puerto del Carmen, emphasizing its "sustainable, modern, innovative, and profoundly human" model.
The highest representative of Tías participated in the presentation of Lanzarote's tourist municipalities within the block prepared by the AMTC to showcase management in Tías, Yaiza, and Teguise. From Tías, the roadmap for the future was summarized, highlighting the most immediate events related to the 60th anniversary, the celebration of St. Patrick's Day, with thousands of attendees, the strategy of the ZEConsciente program, with workshops, talks, exhibitions, and environmental actions, and the Tourism Gala with ZEConsciente recognitions, among others.
José Juan Cruz recalled that the municipality is immersed in the III Plan for Modernization, Improvement, and Increased Competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen, which includes an investment related to the rehabilitation and renovation of infrastructures and services amounting to almost 400 million euros and encompassing 45 private and 10 public actions.
In addition, Puerto del Carmen will benefit from the **Tías Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan**, focused on giving greater prominence to pedestrians and bicycle lanes. This proposal, which contemplates an investment of 16 million euros, promotes more orderly and efficient mobility, improving coexistence, the tourist experience, and the destination's appeal
The municipality of Tías also has an Urban Agenda that integrates an investment, with funding for the years 2026, 2027, and 2028, of 11 million euros in 18 projects and 67 lines of action related to the objective of achieving a "Tías that is closer, more innovative, and sustainable".
The mayor of Tías elaborated on the "transcendence and significance" of the AMTC in the archipelago and worldwide, and referred to the important joint project of the 14 AMTC municipalities, called "Soy Canary Green," which promotes the digitalization of the sector and the transition towards a greener and more efficient model.
