Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) has warned about the modification of the regulations of the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage that the local government intends to carry out. "Astrid Pérez wants to use the Heritage Council as a Trojan horse to skirt the law," says the spokesperson, Leticia Padila, who assures that "it could leave the door open for certain projects to slip through under the excuse of streamlining procedures."

Likewise, the municipalist group points out that this modification "could generate situations of stagnation in future procedures if there is no updated catalog of cultural heritage assets.".

LEP points out that the Arrecife government will take, for its initial approval, "the modification of several articles of the regulations to the Plenary that will be held next Friday, March 25." The political formation details that, among the modifications to be highlighted, is "the intention to attribute more powers to the Municipal Council, so that it can issue reports on projects of all kinds that require a subsequent license, as well as validate reports of values issued by individuals or external promoters."

In addition, from Lanzarote en Pie they point out that the modifications are intended to "prevent the files from being sent to other administrations to rule on the agreements adopted within the Council."

"The Municipal Heritage Council is an advisory body that, in no case, can replace the functions of the technical areas of public administrations," says Leticia Padilla.

From LEP they maintain that "it is the City Council that has the obligation to prepare, manage and keep its catalog of cultural heritage assets updated, because it has the powers for its approval." Likewise, they emphasize that the catalog "is an instrument of mandatory compliance, which gives legal certainty to the owners and allows to speed up the procedures."

From the municipal group they remember that the deadline to present the catalog "ends on June 11." "As of today we have no knowledge of the state in which the Arrecife one is located," they lament from Lanzarote en Pie.

"You can't start building the house from the roof because it comes down. Without the updated planning tool, the procedures and formalities regarding cultural heritage assets are eternalized. The Municipal Council right now would not have the legal framework granted by the catalog, with which the actions could lack legal certainty," says Leticia Padilla.
